We are thrilled to announce our investment in Homebase and our support for their mission of bringing technology to SMBs in a way that helps drive efficient hiring, scheduling, compliance and more, ultimately supporting streamlined operations and increased profitability.

Small businesses and their employees have always been the heartbeat of the US economy and in a post-pandemic world, technology is more critical now than ever to businesses of all sizes, including SMBs. Roughly half of the 5 million small businesses in the United States are still managing their operations offline, and Homebase allows these businesses to manage scheduling, time tracking, communication, payroll, hiring, onboarding, and compliance all in one place, digitally.

Launched out of a desire to disrupt how local businesses manage their hourly teams, Homebase enables owners and employees alike to spend less time on busy work and more time focused on growing their businesses. Homebase now serves more than 100,000 businesses and more than 1 million employees.

Beyond Homebase’s core operational offering of time and attendance, team communication, hiring, and HR services, they’ve successfully launched two new services: payroll processing and pay advances. The new pay advance feature enables employees working for Homebase customers to access some of their earned wages before payday to handle unexpected expenses (without sometimes-predatory payday loans or overdraft fees). Homebase’s ability to transform the norm for SMBs’ and hourly workers makes us excited about both the company’s future growth and the increased impact it will have on small businesses across the country.

When we first met Homebase CEO John Waldmann, it was easy to see the genuine passion John brings to the company. Entrepreneurs take an extraordinary amount of risk to start a business, and John is devoted to making life easier for these risk-takers, who otherwise may be stuck managing their ventures with pen and paper methods from yesteryear.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to invest alongside our friends at GGV, Bedrock, Bain Capital, Khosla Ventures, and several of our artist and athlete partners in Homebase’s Series C financing. Our team, along with those partners from the PLUS Collective, are excited to support Homebase on its mission to help SMBs and their workers succeed. Be sure to stay tuned to the work our artists will be doing to build brand awareness and provide a megaphone to heighten the stories of SMB entrepreneurs.
